In Italy it's called Calcio Storico.

This ancient tradition in Florence, Italy pits local tough guys from four neighborhoods against each other.   They play a sport that's a mash-up of rugby, soccer and full-contact fighting.

Our video team captured a side of Florence that's rarely glimpsed by tourists, where brutality mixes with incredible pageantry and fierce local pride.

On Facebook, there are over 10 MILLION VIEWS of a condensed version of this report, with over 110,000 SHARES.

On Youtube, the full length report has over 200,000 VIEWS.

This report also aired on a national TV network.

A "Who We Are" video, to give viewers a taste of what the tech start-up Vocativ is about and to highlight Vocativ's reporting from around the world.

I produced this video with Part2 Pictures.

Our video team got inside the secretive world of super-rich Chinese young people, living the high life in America.

Sharks...Go-Pros strapped to surf boards...gyro-stabilized helicopter cameras...this project had a lot of fun toys.  And it had to be shot in one day, to beat a fast-closing weather window.

Sure, we hear a lot about sharks.  But we wanted to find out what the reality is from the people who are most likely to be bit.  So we spent time in the water with surfers in the Florida county with more shark attacks than anywhere else in the US.

This report won the EDWARD R. MURROW AWARD for turning a spotlight on "Baby Hatches."   They are small buildings in China were desperate families can leave infants and walk away forever, instead of abandoning them on the street.

Our team recorded one of these abandonments.  And we found a heartbroken father who is one of the few people to reveal how he and his wife reached the agonizing decision to leave their infant daughter in a Baby Hatch.

Same sex marriage is legal.  But sometimes intolerance comes from those who are closest to us.   We profile some brave young people, whose families insisted they be "converted" from gay to straight.

What if Apple made more than tech devices?  What if they produced the food you eat, the clothes you wear, the health insurance your family depends on, the beer you drink and nearly every other product and service of daily life?

That's what SAMSUNG does. Americans know it for phone and TV's.  But this huge company accounts for nearly 20% of Korea's economy.  You could spend an entire day using ONLY Samsung products and services.

After months of negotiations, our team got a rare look inside this powerful and often secretive company. And we saw a glimpse into our own possible future.

ISIS is terrifyingly good at making propaganda.  But so is one man who has vowed to destroy ISIS.

Meet the Iraqi militia commander who has become a folk hero to Iraqis fighting a life-or-death battle against ISIS.

Our team traveled to Iraq to meet with him.  And it was every bit as dangerous as you'd think.  We took extra precautions to remain objective, since the first casualty of war is usually the truth.

Imagine trying to fight against ISIS at the same time as you battle the ruthless dictator of your country.  That's the terrifying predicament facing the rebels in Syria, who have been in constant warfare for nearly five years.

The rebels have so few weapons they built their own home-made tank, with the main weapon aimed by a game controller from a Sony Playstation.    Our team traveled to Aleppo, Syria to embed with the rebels, despite enormous risk.  What we found is incredible ingenuity and bravery in the face of overwhelming odds.
